Our History

Past

The Northern Alberta Business Incubator (NABI) opened its doors at 13 Mission Avenue on March 16, 1989. The facility is a converted school building originally built in 1952. The building is 16 000 square feet. Approximately one-half of this space is leaseable space. The building houses thirty-two (32) offices of varying sizes. The amount of leaseable space is a major constraint to attaining self-sustainability through office rentals. NABI, formally known as The St. Albert Business Development Centre (BDC) was originally established under the City of St. Albert By-Law No. 17/89.

Present

NABI was proud to open a second location in 2008. Our new Campbell Park location is a fully renovated, modern building with fiber optic communication systems, board rooms, kitchen facilities, custom servers, fax, printer and reception services. The Mission building has also undergone renovations to common areas, including a new 'state of the art' video conference centre. With two locations in St. Albert, NABI now offers 41,000 square feet of office space to the Capital Region.

In 2009, NABI celebrated 20 years as a successful incubator, graduating 91 businesses during this period. Over 70% of these businesses are still operating, with 68% remaining in St. Albert. NABI introduced the new 'NABI Business Development Network' logo to create awareness and clarity around the NABI offering. Enhanced visibility was also achieved through being an active sponsor in the St. Albert Chamber of Commerce’s “Small Business Week” event, the Edmonton business association trade show, open houses such as “Oktoberfest”, sponsor of the NABI / SAEDAC video conference seminar on Smart Growth and frequent tenant network events. As an approved service provider under the Alberta Innovates voucher program NABI assists entrepreneurs, new business start-ups and business service providers in growing their businesses. The video conferencing service was promoted through such events as BusinessLink seminars. Continuing NABI involvement in the Regional Alliance Partnership to deliver appropriate support programs and resources is a priority.
