President at Scriptorium Professional Writing Services

Annette Wierstra is a business coach at NABI with a strong background in communications, and a passion for teaching and continued learning. Annette is available to help NABI Commons clients with questions and ideas related to developing excellent communications.

Annette is a professional writer with over 20 years of experience and a strong focus on sharing her knowledge with others. Annette and her business partner, Pamela Scott, created Scriptorium over 8 years ago. Scriptorium is a technical writing firm based out of Edmonton that provides businesses with the option to outsource their technical writing projects. Typical projects include operations, safety and HR manuals, product user guides, and governance documents. Scriptorium also writes and provides internal training for companies that do not have an in-house writer or communications department. While Scriptorium specializes in technical communications, Annette has also worked on a range of projects geared toward marketing, client communications, and other written content.

Thanks to her academic and professional experience, Annette is an excellent source of information for anyone who is in the process of shaping and expanding a business. Her academic journey in communications began with a Bachelor of Applied Communications in Professional Writing at Grant MacEwan University. After graduating, Annette went on to teach in MacEwan’s communications department, as well as provide continued learning seminars at ATB’s Entrepreneur Centre. Now, as a business coach at NABI Commons, Annette hopes to give back to the business community by providing startups and small businesses with the help they need to get their communications working harder for them. She’s very passionate about her field, and excited to share her expertise with others.

Annette is available to help with questions regarding:

  • Plain language
  • Developing internal and technical communications
  • Writing a business plan
  • Developing external client communications
  • Marketing and brand-based content writing
  • How effective communications contribute positively to company culture, employee wellbeing, efficiency, and business operations
  • A variety of other communications topics
Annette can help just about any type of business build strong communications. Her clients and seminar attendees come from a variety of industries. Often, she is sought out by non-profit organizations, and small to medium-sized for-profit companies. She’s worked with Edmonton Waste Management Centre of Excellence, the City of Edmonton, Hockey Edmonton, and the Food Banks Alberta board, among many others. If you’re struggling with a particular idea or concept, she’d be delighted to look it over and give you some ideas and feedback. Or, if you just need more general information and advice, she can provide guidance and help you find your starting point.

Annette loves the collaborative learning environment NABI offers. “It will only get more vibrant as people get to know it,” she says. She hopes that entrepreneurs and small businesses will take advantage of the supportive atmosphere offered at Commons, and engage in learning more about how they can improve and grow their businesses. Annette is available to answer questions at NABI Commons on Tuesdays between 10am and 12pm. For the full coaching schedule, and to see which other Commons coaches can help answer your most pressing questions, visit the coaching schedule here.

You can also keep an eye out for Annette’s upcoming ATB seminars (which are free!) by following her on LinkedIn at or @ScriptoriumYEG on Twitter.
