PRESS RELEASE:

St. Albert-based business incubator charts new direction
Northern Alberta Business Incubator (NABI) celebrates its reinvention at ReDraft, its signature Small Business Week event

St. Albert, AB- Since its inception in 1989, the Northern Alberta Business Incubator (NABI) has helped small businesses in the metropolitan Edmonton area lay foundations for success. Nearly three decades later, the non-profit is reinventing itself.

Under the leadership of its new Executive Director, Noreen Hoskins, NABI will now focus on brokering collaborations between corporate partners and tech start-ups, helping the former generate fresh ideas and providing the latter with valuable mentorship. To that end, NABI will move forward with the strategic theme, “Community. Incubation. Innovation.”

NABI is introducing their inaugural Member Panel made up of their most important assets — their current incubator clients — that will serve as program advisors to help shape the incubator’s community.

Currently, NABI is developing a new line of programming focused on making Alberta’s high-growth companies more attractive to investors. One of these programs, the WayPoint Cohort Program, launches later this fall and will connect start-ups in a specific industry with both industry peers and strategic partners. The first cohort will include one company in the textile industry — Earth Groove — and two companies in the technology industry — ez enRoute and dealcloserTM — who will receive business consulting services.

On the Innovation front, NABI is undergoing a digital transformation to eventually offer a development environment to entrepreneurs from Alberta and around the world.

NABI celebrated both Small Business Week and its new strategic direction at its signature event, ReDraft (formerly Oktoberfest), on Oct.16, 2018. Hosted at Endeavour Brewing Company, the event provided guests with samples of its beers and plenty of sausages and sauerkraut.

ReDraft ran in conjunction with the St. Albert and District Chamber of Commerce Small Business Week, which runs until Oct.19
